Newfoundland & Labrador There are 20 species of whales and porpoises as well as masses of other wildlife with regular guaranteed departures in June, July and August.
Canada You may observe whales in many places around the coasts of Canada and Alaska during the summer months. You may kayak amongst the orca whales along the west coast or set for a whale watching cruises from Prince Rupert to Alaska in August and September or the cruise along the Ocean Highway to Alaska that allows you to see whales and other wildlife in comfort. You may also head for self-drive tours around the Bay of Fundy as well as group tours which include Fundy isles and the Churchill River for beluga, minke, finback and humpback whale. You may also observe Beluga Whales in great numbers at Somerset Island in the High Arctic.
South America The Galapagos Islands are famous for all kinds of wildlife including whales with regular departures all year. In Argentina whales can be observed off Peninsula Valdes near Trelew on the southern tip of South America between July and November.
South Africa Along the south coast of Africa in their spring (our autumn) the world’s largest concentration of Southern Right Whales gathers. And they can easily be observed direct from the coast.
Madagascar You may observe whales along the west coast between August and September.
Australasia When the whales get too cold, they migrate from the Antarctic waters to the south, east and west coasts of Australia from May to October. You may observe them in the best areas in WA, SA, Victoria and Queensland, either from the coast or from boats. You may also visit a couple of places along the West coast where dolphins come into the shallows to play with the people on the beach. Visitors may also have the unique opportunity to dive with Whalesharks at Ningaloo Reef in Western Australia.
You may also enjoy whale watching from rubber dinghies, swimming with dolphins and sea lion colonies along the Kaikora coast of New Zealand's South Island.
Azores You may observe sperm whales, pilot and bottlenose whales among others around the Azores during the summer.
Iceland The waters of Northeast Iceland are frequented by Minke and sometimes Humpback whales from June to September.
Caribbean You may also head to the prime calving and breeding area for the North Atlantic Humpback whale, between Grand Turk and the Dominican Republic. Cruise there between January and March and enjoy a great spectacle.
Baja Mexico You can see Grey, Bottlenose, Blue and Humpback whales as well as dolphins, turtles and birds between January and March in Magdalena Bay and the Ocean around Baja California. Hawaii Or observe humpback whales gathering around the island of Maui in Hawaii in large numbers between January and March every year.
