Gay Cruise
gay-cruiseMost first-time gay vacationers are surprised by the sheer comfort and pleasure of getting away form heterosexual environment. Maybe because they got used to the heterosexual society, they don’t even guess what utter joy of being in a gay one awaits them. It's a little like your first experience at a gay pride parade, or even a gay bar. Discovering that there are so many other people like you is reawakened. Combine that with the feeling of pure getaway and you begin to understand how a gay vacation can be such an amazing break from your everyday world, and why so many people venture into these vacations over and over.

From masquerade parties to financial planning seminars and almost everything in between, you can take part in group activities around the clock, or you can just sunbath by the pool or beach, or enjoy a romantic dinner for two. On a cruise it's rather easy to strike your own personal balance of activity, combining all the elements, which you prefer into one great vacation.

It is hard to guarantee the Romance, but you won't find a better place to set on fire an old relationship, or start a new one. Or you can certainly expect to make at least a few new friends. It’s a definite opportunity to try something new and enjoy something familiar, like Bingo, but with a fun and funny gay whims.

The moderately priced cruise ships and resorts are the characteristic feature of most all-gay vacations. In the last five years cruise lines trend towards better ships, so you may sometimes be pleasantly surprised by more luxury lodges and even more gourmet food. If you are accustomed to more deluxe apartments, you may book a larger cabin or suite, and think of making advance reservations to have a great meal or two during a shore excursion off the ship or outside the resort.

Many gay vacationers, who are taking the cruise for the first time, feel uneasy about the mix of people on a given trip. You should not worry. There's always a good mix of couples and singles, elder travelers and younger ones, experienced guests and first time vacationers among 300 to 2,500 people on board.
The major fun opportunity for many passengers are theme nights and parties, and we advice you asking about these events before departure, as you may want to prepare a couple of wardrobe opportunities.
There are two types of gay voyages: those that use chartered ships and those that reserve cabins on cruise lines. In both cases, specialized travel agencies experienced with both group travel and the requests made by gay vacationers make most arrangements. The most famous agencies that arrange the cruises are: Atlantis Events, Inc., Olivia Cruises and Resorts (deals primarily with lesbian-oriented travel), RSVP Vacations, Friends of Dorothy Travel, R Family Vacations and Pied Piper Travel.

The cruise may cost significantly more if the agency charters an entire ship – from small vessels to large mainstream ships from popular lines. However, in this case, passengers are assured of an entire cruise of like-minded passengers, rather than one separate group among thousands of travelers. Such agencies also often add typical entertainment with guest performers preferred by the gay community, making the cruise even more suitable for the group’s interests.

Gay group itinerates usually are sold out quickly, and if you are interested you should plan to book your cabin about six months in advance.

Travel agencies try to work with cruise lines known for their gay-friendly atmosphere and tolerance. The crews of main lines are required to undergo sensitivity training, and bigoted incidents are a rare. While cruise lines that work more with families with young children such as Disney, as well as river cruise lines that offer their services to primarily older, thus more conservative passengers, do not usually offer events and special entertainment to gay groups.

Below you can check out the list of cruise lines, which are termed “gay-friendly” not only for their tolerant atmosphere, but also for the some activities they propose that allow passengers to mix and the variety of ports, they call, have large gay communities. The most gay-friendly cruise lines include: Princess Cruises, Carnival Cruise Line, Celebrity Cruises, Royal Caribbean Cruises, Norwegian Cruise Line, Holland America Cruise Line, Radisson Seven Seas Cruises, Seabourn Cruises and Windstar Cruises.
