| Pre-Departure Tips |
If you want to take a hair dryer or an electric razor, ask your cruise line agent as to what the cabin voltage will be, as you may need to take an adaptor.
Do not forget to leave the ship's contact information with a friend or family member at home. You may find this information on the cruise line's web site or by calling them directly.
If you book an air/sea package and you are left ashore because of late or cancelled flight, do not panic. The cruise line will take you to the next port of call.
Check-in and security procedures can be held. Make sure to come at the boarding area at least two hours before the departure. Don’t worry about boarding too early, as there are lots of options which you can enjoy before the ship leaves port.
You may save your time by completing an onboard credit card application form with the tickets beforehand and take it with you when you register.
You may also save time by completing your immigration and embarkation forms online. Check with your cruise line, whether it provides such service.
Ask for a receipt when you hand over your passport upon boarding.
Don't buy duty-free alcohol to drink aboard, as it will be confiscated till the last day of the cruise.
Learn information about your ports of call (in guidebooks and on the Internet) as that can very much enrich your journey. You may learn information on your destinations in a library as most ships have one.
If you want to learn to scuba dive, you should consider doing the class work at a local dive center prior to departure and save the open water portion for your trip. This will reduce your time spent at a desk while on vacation.
