4. Emerald Princess (Princess Cruises) With 113,000 GRT Emerald Princess joined the Princess fleet as a new build and member of the "Grand class" of ships carrying from 2,600 to 3,100 passengers. Her similar design sister ships are the Caribbean Princess and Crown Princess.
The first Emerald Princess’s cruise was in April from Venice, Italy and the ship was christened in Athens, Greece on May 12.
Until the fall the Emerald Princess sails the Mediterranean then she repositions to the Caribbean for the winter season.
5. Liberty of the Seas (RCI) The Freedom of the Seas is the largest cruise ship afloat; she had some competition when the Liberty of the Seas joins the RCI fleet. With 160,000 GRT and lodging 3,600 passengers, the Liberty of the Seas is the same size as her sister the Freedom of the Seas.
She has all the amenities of the Freedom and sails the eastern and western Caribbean on 7-day cruises.
6. MS Fram (NCV) The 318 passenger MS Fram was scheduled for its maiden voyage. The christening ceremony took place in Oslo on May 19, 2007. The ship is an expedition ship sailing the North Atlantic to Greenland, Iceland, and points north in the summer and Antarctica in the winter. She has an interesting Pole to Pole longitudinal world cruise in its first season, starting in Greenland in September and ending in Antarctica and South America 66 days later.
7. Celebrity Journey (Celebrity Cruises) The 710-passenger Celebrity Journey (originally the R6) joined the Celebrity fleet in 2007. The ship sailed most recently as the Blue Dream of Pulmantur, which was acquired by Celebrity's parent company RCI in late 2006.
