Myths about Cruising
Even if 12 million people will cruise every year, many other travelers avoid cruises because of lots of myths. To take a cruise is a wonderful vacation option.

First of all, many people believe that they will have seasickness; however, today's cruise ships are very stable and seasickness is a rarity. If you are prone to seasickness, there are many remedies available to travelers to alleviate the symptoms.

Some people are afraid of getting a stomach virus like Norwalk virus. Noroviruses are a group of viruses that cause gastroenteritis. If you had a flu shot that will not prevent contracting a norovirus. These viruses can be found almost anyplace with lots of people in close proximity, not just cruise ships. The best way to decrease the chance of coming in contact with the Norwalk Virus or norovirus on a cruise ship is washing your hands frequently.

Many travelers are sure that cruises are all-inclusive. But the majority of them is not all-inclusive. To keep the basic price low, most mainstream cruise lines charge for everything that could be considered "extra", from wine to bottled water. Since ships become more creative in their onboard activities, more things come at a price. But the basic cruise fare still includes room, board, and the traditional cruise ship amenities such as a swimming pool and entertainment, so you can cruise and only have to pay for tips and drinks if your choose.

If you think that you will dine at assigned times and with people you might not like, just bear in mind that more and more cruise lines have open seating for dinner, which means you can dine when you like and at different tables.

However, many cruise ships still feature traditional seating for dinner, with assigned times and tables. In addition, today's cruise ships also include alternative dining venues, so you can vary your restaurant choices along with your table mates.

Some people consider cruise ships to be crowded. But for a cruise enthusiast it will sound strange that cruiser could not find a quiet corner to read a book or be alone with his/her spouse. Though a cruise ship with over 3000 passengers can seem crowded at times, it is no more so than most hotels, restaurants, or resorts. Ship managers understand crowd control much like they do at Disney World. With regard to luxury cruise ships, they usually have plenty of space per passenger and many spacious common areas.
