The line’s shiny masted sailing ships with computer-directed routes provide the ideal balance of sophisticated pampering, excellent service, and luxurious facilities amid an informal atmosphere. There are currently 3 ships at Windstar Cruises: Wind Spirit, Wind Star, and Wind Surf that carry between 148 and 308 passengers. The ratios of passengers to crew are rather high: 1.5 to 1. And the result is a superb level of personalized service. 

The designated dress code here is "casual elegance". Passengers leave their ties and formal wear at home in favor of country-club casual sportswear. There are few organized activities, and usual cruise line Vegas-style entertainment is present. The guests stay long at dinner, tasting delicious entrées developed by celebrated chef Joachim Splichal. Light and vegetarian dishes were designed by health guru Jeanne Jones, developer of spa menus for Canyon Ranch Spa and the Pritikin Longevity Center. The ships at Windstar Cruises boast of roomy, modern cabins and suites.

Passengers here are usually somewhat younger and more highly educated than on most cruises because of the unusual ports and variety of hard and soft adventure.
